Greenbelt Update
We have continued our meetings and walk rounds with the Greenbelt group. The play area on Achray drive is now fully functional and will be inspected by Greenbelt on a monthly basis. The remainder of the planting and landscaping on the development is due to commence in April and run throughout the summer.
The bill for 2008 will be due to drop through your letterbox in May and we have been assured that this will be at a reduced rate around £125 per year.
If you have any specific Greenbelt issues please contact a member of the committee.
Council Update
The council are stilling planning on the adoption of the roads in autumn 2008. When the road adoption takes place a bus service should commence. After feedback from residents the committee have requested that there will be no bus shelters to reduce the opportunity for vandalism.
The proposed play area behind the Scotia development has been actively challenged. A sub-group of residents directly affected was formed and headed up by Dougie – they produced an information booklet which was sent to all local councillors ad MSPs. This is will hopefully be available on the blog soon.
The committee have requested information on the planning gain money as there is a bit of debate as to how much is actually available. The committee have been working with the Barratt & Bryant committee to come up with alternative to the proposed play area. Some suggestions which we have been researching are: getting Virgin media to install cable into the area to give residents more choice & building a small wooden cabin meeting hall where the Persimmon porta-cabin sales office was located at the bottom of Lionthorn Woods. If you have any suggestions please let us know.
Other Information
We are planning to arrange an AGM for June and will communicate further details once we have secured a venue.
One of the points for the AGM will be combining the residents associations of our own developments with that of the Barratt & Bryant estate and then eventually the remaining estates off Lionthorn Road.
Dougie is currently working on setting up a Community Council for the area.
If anyone has any ideas about any social events that they would put forward then please speak to a committee member about it and we can look at getting something organised in the near future – ideally we would like to increase the number of committee members & be able to form a social committee to organise events – if you are interested please contact a member of the committee.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Marie Curie appeal, the total raised from 1-29 Achray Drive was £43.
